About Tony D's

Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 2 days a week. Typical hours are 4β10 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (585) 413-3640. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, tonyds.net.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 1,486 reviews, which is a strong result for an italian restaurant in Rochester and suggests consistent service.
Rochester is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Rochester follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I usually only leave reviews for positive reasons butβ¦just finished a meal for Fatherβs Day at my husbandβs request since he loves it here. Got the fried mozzarella starter. The lemon sauce it was sitting in had a very strange taste. As a family who LOVE fried mozzarella, none of us were fans. My husbandβs glass of Nebbiolo had large floating debris that we were told was βsedimentβ. It definitely wasnβt sediment but he got another glass and we werenβt charged for it. Our main dishes (Sunday sauce and penne with spicy vodka sauce with chicken cutlet) were mediocre at best. With Rochester being a foodie town, there are much better options, especially for this price point. My husbandβs food also came out 20 minutes after my dish and my sonβs so we were done eating before he even got his food. Service was as good as it could be for what the staffing was but being on the patio wasnβt optimal on a holiday. Had to wait forever for boxing and even longer to close out the check. Over 2 hours start to finish. Too many other great places in this city to eat for this price ($150+). Wonβt be back.

Food was tasty but not a lot of gluten free options. You can tell the place isnβt really meant for gluten free people (celiac). But, the staff did work to accommodate and verify if certain things were naturally gluten free. I ended up getting the steak, chicken wings and some calamari salad thing. All very tasty. I think the waiter might have mentioned the have GF pasta, but I did not try it. Portions are pretty big!

Every popular Italian restaurant was packed at night. Thankfully Tony D's has a spot by the bar and it has good reviews. Service is excellent and bartender checks on you constantly . Portion is huge. Meatballs appetize is like baseball size. I usually can finish appetizer and a main course by myself but I can't this time. Chicken Parmesan can feed a small Italian village. The tomato sauce they have is ok to me, taste like something you can get from the store. Maybe not enough herd or garlic, just not enough depth. I definitely will come back though; pizza and other pasta dishes look good.

Went here for a anniversary dinner , they are well known in and around Rochester . We got the Meatballs and Aranchini for starters , both were amazing , these were the highlights of the meal . I got the Chicken Parm which was really good . My wife got the steak special which was just ok , I was glad I got the Chicken Parm . But if your looking for a nice dinner out I would highly recommend you make it here .

A night out at Tony Dβs on University Avenue delivers the kind of hospitality and flavor that reminds you why dining out still matters. I had the pleasure of dining with my friend Bianca, someone I originally met when she was managing a hotel I frequently stayed at. You know me, I tend to make friends wherever I go, and Bianca is one of those connections that stuck. Sharing a meal with someone who appreciates great service and quality as much as I do always elevates the experience. The evening began with the Paisley Park, a cleverly balanced mocktail built on Seedlip Garden 108, raspberry purΓ©e, lemon, and soda. Itβs light, garden-fresh, and refreshing without trying too hard to impress. Off-menu, I requested a fresh-squeezed lemonade, and the bartender obliged without hesitation, a small gesture that speaks volumes about the houseβs service philosophy. Not every place passes that quiet test of attentiveness. This one did. The appetizer? Egg-battered artichoke hearts, set against a cushion of whipped ricotta and sharpened with Calabrian chili oil and lemon aioli. Crunch, cream, heat, and zing, all in proper conversation. Itβs one of those dishes that knows how to introduce a mea
